BBC New Media appoints head of design

LONDON - BBC New Media has appointed Steve Rogers, formerly of internet consultancy Razorfish, to the post of head of design and navigation for its online and interactive TV brands.

Rogers will be responsible for ensuring continuity of design across the BBC's new-media brands. He joins on September 3 and will report to Katherine Everett, controller of new media.

At Razorfish, Rogers held the post of vice-president of physical design. He is the latest in a string of senior departures from the agency.

Earlier this month, a number of former Razorfish staff, including former European strategic director Mike Beeston, launched a new agency.

The agency is wholly owned by Swedish outfit Spray AB and is using the temporary working name of Spray UK. Beeston is joined by Mark Curtis, Razorfish's former European vice-president of skills and practice, and Olof Schybergson, former creative director.

Prior to Razorfish, Rogers worked for Philips Design. He held a number of positions there -- including global account manager and studio manager for Philips Design in Vienna -- culminating in the role of design director, Philips Design USA. There he was involved in the product and interface design for the TiVo box and WebTV.

Rogers said, "I'm thrilled to be joining BBC New Media at such as exciting time, with some major innovations on the horizon and a whole new approach being taken to design and navigation on the internet and interactive TV."
