LONDON (Brand Republic) - The BBC is considering ways of providing a licence-fee funded service for mobile phone users, in a bid to use its public service new-media arm to reach people for whom other BBC services are becoming less relevant.

The plans are being spearheaded by Ashley Highfield, the BBC鈥檚 first new-media director, who joined the corporation from cable operator Telewest last year.

Other plans involve the restructuring of the BBC鈥檚 award-winning online news service, which could drop its 鈥淥nline鈥 branding.
