The magazine is provisionally titled The Daily Telegraph Gardening Magazine, with BBC Magazines claiming it will fill a niche in the UK gardening magazine market. It plans to provide in-depth coverage on areas of special gardening interest.
BBC Magazines, part of the corporation's BBC Worldwide commercial arm, already publishes Easy Gardening, Gardens Illustrated and the market leader BBC Gardeners' World, which has an audited circulation of 350,064 each month.
The new magazine will hit newsstands at the beginning of March 2003, with a second issue due later in the spring. The launch will be supported by a retail marketing campaign and advertising in the Telegraph and in the BBC Magazines portfolio.
Alex Stitt, enterprise director of the Telegraph Group, said: "This is a continuance of the company's strategic move in migrating successful brands from the newspaper to the newsstand in an alternative media format. The Saturday Gardening section has been a highly successful launch for the paper, and we look forward to building an equally impressive reputation in the gardening magazine market."
The Telegraph Group has embarked on a number of joint publishing deals with magazine publishers, including a personal finance title with Haymarket Publishing and a business travel supplement with the Business Traveller magazine.
