Bampton to head Viacom as Curtis replacement sought

LONDON - Viacom Brand Solutions has appointed sales director Nick Bampton as an interim replacement for managing director Paul Curtis, who quit earlier this week to join BSkyB.

Bampton takes on the role until a replacement for Curtis is found and will report to Michiel Bakker, executive vice-president and managing director of MTV Networks, UK, Eire and Nordic.

Curtis had been in the role of managing director since Viacom Brand Solutions, which sells space on behalf of 14 cable and satellite channels such as MTV and Nickelodeon, was set up three years ago.

Curtis joined BSkyB as deputy managing director of advertising sales division Sky Media. His appointment follows the resignation of director of sales Mark Chippendale last month. A BSkyB spokesman said a decision on whether the director of sales role will be brought back or whether Curtis will take over Chippendale's responsibilities is under review.

Curtis and Brampton had worked together for some time with the two joining Viacom from the then Channel 5.

Bampton said: "Personally, it's very sad for me to see Paul move on. He's been instrumental in leading a team that has enjoyed tremendous growth over the last three years.

"I am proud to be given the opportunity of heading up VBS during this transition and feel confident we can continue to innovate and drive our business forward."
