The scheme has been unveiled in the US, but it is not known if Ask plans to extend the offer to other markets.

offers internet users a dedicated section for bargain hunters and coupon clippers. The site has its own tab on the search engine, but Ask is also featuring it prominently in ordinary search results.

If you type in the search query, 'cheap iPods', for example, the search engine will produce coupons on the results page.

Ask, which commands just under 4 per cent of the US search market, is hoping the move will differentiate its proposition from competitors such as Google, which does not currently offer coupons.

The introduction of coupons also enables Ask to better compete with price comparison and aggregator websites.
