Ashes to Ashes beats Hell's Kitchen final with 5.9m viewers

LONDON - BBC One's 'Ashes to Ashes' dropped 1.1m viewers from its series debut last week, but still beat the final of ITV1's 'Hell's Kitchen', according to unofficial overnight figures.

'Ashes to Ashes', which featured Philip Glenister's character Gene Hunt running a gypsy drug dealer off the road in his Audi Quattro, won the prime time slot with 5.9m viewers.

The final of 'Hell's Kitchen', which saw 'Dynasty' star Linda Evans crowned the winner by Marco Pierre White after a public vote, pulled in 5.2m viewers in the 9pm-10pm slot.

Evans battled it out against comedian Adrian Edmondson in the live final on ITV1.

The concluding part of Channel 4 documentary series 'Henry VIII: Mind of a Tyrant', presented by Tudor expert David Starkey, drew 1.8m viewers including Channel 4+1 figures.

Starkey highlighted the enormity of Henry's break from Rome and its far-reaching consequences, which he described as "the greatest power-grab in the thousand-year history of the English monarchy".

BBC Two's US drama 'Heroes', starring Milo Ventimiglia and Hayden Panettiere, scored 1.1m viewers.

Five's 'Extreme Fishing with Robson Green', which saw Green looking back at his 10 best moments from the two series' of 'Extreme Fishing', including his close encounter with a barracuda off the coast of the US, netted 1m viewers.
