Arsenal and Liverpool top online teams with rich fans

LONDON - Arsenal FC and Liverpool FC have been ranked the sports brands with the greatest concentration of online traffic from high-earning fans.

The survey, which was conducted by Nielsen//NetRatings, ranked brands that received the highest amount of home and work-based online visits from users with an income in excess of £50,000 a year, with the financial sector featuring heavily in the top 10, according to a study.

The poll was topped by Business Banking, which received a home and work-based online audience earning more than £50,000 a year of 59%, with House ranked second on 53%.

In third place was Free Translation, the language translation company, which polled 51%, and Interactive Investor completing the top four on 51%. FC came fifth in the home and work internet audience category with 43%, with Transport for seventh, Atlantic ninth and completing the top ten.

In the home-based internet audience poll, American Express came top garnering 37%, with Transport for London second on 33% and supermarket home delivery service to You third on 32%. FC was the highest-ranking sports brand in this category, bringing in 31% of high earning online visitors.

Also featuring in the home internet audience top 10 was Hilton, Club Penguin and Intercontinental Hotels Group.

Alex Burmaster, internet analyst at Neilsen//NetRatings, said: "While business and finance brands are expected [to feature in the poll], many will be surprised to see the number of travel related brands, which cover flights, hotels or just getting around London."
