Amazon launches credit card and loyalty scheme

LONDON - Online store Amazon.co.uk has launched a branded credit card that will offer a loyalty scheme for cardholders to earn Amazon vouchers.

Launched after a deal with HBOS, the card comes with the usual new-card benefits of 0% interest on purchases and balance transfers for the first six months (rising to 12.9% APR thereafter), but also features a points scheme when customers make purchases using the card.

All purchases with the card earn half a point for every pound spent, while purchases made on using the card earn one point per pound. When cardholders rack up 1,500 points they receive a £15 Amazon gift certificate. People signing up to the card before the end of the year will also receive a £20 gift certificate.

Robin Terrell, managing director of Amazon.co.uk, said: "The Amazon.co.uk MasterCard is yet another way to help customers save money when they shop with us."

Judy D'Albertson, Head of HBOS card services partnerships and affinities, said: "The card offers customers a very competitive APR and introductory offer, as well as an attractive rewards scheme."

The launch ends a busy month for Amazon, which also signed a deal to power the online retail websites for book chains Borders and Books etc..
