More than 15 million watch England victory

A peak of 15.4 million people tuned in to watch England's final group game yesterday afternoon as the 2010 Fifa World Cup continued to dominate the TV schedules, according to unofficial overnight figures.

An average of 12.9 million viewers, an audience share of 78.2%, watched England beat Slovenia 1-0 and go through to the knockout stages of the competition.

The whole programme, ‘MOTD Live: Slovenia v England’, had an average of 9.97 million viewers on BBC One between 14.15pm and 5.15pm, a 68.5% share of the TV-watching audience.

Research from AOL ad server Adtech showed that internet activity in the UK during yesterday’s game dropped by as much as 35% during yesterday’s game.

ITV1’s coverage of the Ghana vs Germany evening game was watched by an average of 5.5 million people between 7pm and 9.30pm, a 25.3% share of the available audience.

The Australia vs Serbia match was shown on the digital station ITV4 and an average of 248,000 people watched the show between 7pm and 9.30pm, a 1.1% share of the available audience. A further 6,000 watched the show on ITV4+1.

The BBC comedy ‘Outnumbered’ managed to just beat ‘James Corden’s World Cup Live’ on ITV1 in the 9.30pm to 10pm slot. ‘Outnumbered’ had an average of 3.608 million viewers, a 16.5% share of the available audience.

‘James Corden’s World Cup’ was watched by an average of 3.552 million people, a 16.2% share of the TV-watching audience.

‘Big Brother’ was watched by 2.6 million people across Channel 4 and Channel 4+1. The Channel 4 audience, of 2.2 million, accounted for 9.4% of the available audience.
