Yahoo! promotes services in HP computer bundling deal

The internet company's European division has linked up with HP to bundle its services onto HP- and Compaq-branded PCs sold in five countries, including the UK.

From next month, buyers of HP Pavilion or Compaq Presario desktop and notebook PCs will have instant access to Yahoo!'s homepage and communications features, including Yahoo! Messenger and Yahoo! Mail via their desktop.

The move marks a change in marketing strategy for Yahoo!, which has not previously targeted PC buyers. Rival ISPs such as AOL and Wanadoo rely on this type of partnership to sign up new customers.

Yahoo! revealed that the agreement with HP would be the first of several deals with PC manufacturers.
