Hazlitt's promotion comes as Martina King, currently managing director of UK & Ireland, steps up to take on the newly created role of managing director of country operations for Yahoo! Europe.
Hazlitt joined Yahoo! in 2000 and was previously director of sales and marketing for Yahoo! Europe, responsible for advertising, marketing, sales and promotions across Yahoo!'s European network.
Before joining Yahoo!, Hazlitt worked at Capital Radio for six years in a variety of roles culminating in that of sales director, responsible for airtime sponsorship and sales for all the Capital stations and websites across the UK.
Mark Opzoomer, managing director and regional vice-president of Yahoo! Europe, said: "I am delighted to appoint Fru, already a proven and experienced manager within Yahoo!, as managing director of Yahoo! UK & Ireland. Fru will bring strong leadership skills and a depth of experience in sales and marketing, which is ideally suited to extend our leadership position within the UK & Ireland marketplace."
As managing director for Europe, King's primary responsibility will be to lead Yahoo!'s country operations business, including its marketing services and media properties, encompassing all nine European sites. She will aim to continue to grow advertising revenue and drive profitability across the European network of sites.
"Under the leadership of Martina King, the Yahoo! UK & Ireland team has built our most profitable, mature and developed market within Europe and, in her new role, will be focusing on driving our marketing services business across Europe," Opzoomer said.
Opzoomer recently admitted that the entertainment portal was considering moving into the broadband ISP market in Europe, which would most likely see it join forces with an existing player.
It is thought the UK market would be one of the first that Yahoo! would enter with a broadband service.
