Yahoo! plans free content push after $100m Associated Content deal

LONDON - Yahoo! says it plans to expand the use of free user-generated media globally following its acquisition of US-based low-cost producer Associated Content for $100m.

The deal has serious implications for content producers as an increasingly number of firms, including AOL's Seed arm and Demand Media, vie to provide low-cost real-time text, pictures and video.

Yahoo! CEO Carol Bartz called the move a game changer and marks a change in strategy for the internet firm that has previously focused on creating high quality content.
