Yahoo! extends Bebo deal to sell display ads

LONDON - Yahoo! has extended its partnership with social network Bebo to include display advertising. Bebo switched its search provider in the UK from Google to Yahoo! earlier this summer, as revealed in Media Week (26 June 2007), and the pair have decided to extend the partnership.

New terms will see Yahoo! handle the majority of display advertising on Bebo, despite the social network having spent several months building an in-house sales team lead by ex-MSN executive Mark Charkin. Bebo will also provide users with an on-site Yahoo Answers service, the portal’s social search engine, and a branded Yahoo! toolbar.
Bebo said that the partnership would enable its sales team to concentrate on developing more integrated advertising campaigns.
The deal means that Bebo now has relations with both Microsoft and Yahoo!. Only last month Bebo teamed up with Microsoft to offer Live Messenger features embedded in its users’ profile pages.
Microsoft has previously extended its ad reach to independent social network Piczo and Yahoo! has been keen to offer advertisers social network inventory beyond its own properties such as Yahoo! 360 and Flickr.
