Yahoo! to deliver World Cup content to mobiles

LONDON - Yahoo! has teamed up with mobile application developer Everypoint to deliver up-to-the-second content from the 2006 Fifa World Cup to mobile phones worldwide.

The Yahoo! Mobile MatchCast will give mobile phone users access to real-time match information, schedules, team information, statistics, news, photos, scores and up-to-the-second commentary from the World Cup in Germany.

The mobile application extends on Yahoo!'s existing online MatchCast offering. It will be available to download onto Java mobile handsets from the official Fifa World Cup website.

Evan Schumacher, Everypoint CEO, said: "We are breaking new ground by enabling sports enthusiasts around the world to enjoy a true play-by-play soccer experience on their mobile phone from wherever they are."

Christian Lindholm, Yahoo! vice-president of global mobile products, said: "Nothing can beat experiencing every exciting moment of all the big matches as they unfold in real-time. We are excited to deliver real-time mobile applications with crisp graphics directly to fans' mobile phones."
