Yahoo! and 3 extend alliance for mobile services

LONDON - Yahoo! and 3G mobile network 3 have extended their alliance to include new mobile internet services for 3G mobile users.

The two companies will provide Yahoo! Go, an application that allows users to search for a variety of topics including news, sport or weather, to 3 customers in Italy, UK, Ireland, Sweden and Denmark, with other 3 network markets expected to follow in the coming months.

The expansion of services on the 3 network builds on the relationship the companies announced in June 2006 and pushes forward Yahoo!'s continued focus on the mobile internet market. Yahoo! Go allows the mobile customer to personalise their own internet application and uses the entire internet, not just Yahoo! key services such as Yahoo! Mail and Yahoo! Messenger.

The two companies are will also work towards launching Yahoo! services in 3 markets in Asia including Australia and Hong Kong, the latter with Hutchison Telecommunications International. The companies will jointly market the services on the Yahoo! and 3 networks.

Geraldine Wilson, vice-president of connected life for Yahoo! Europe, said: "The extension of our partnership with the 3 group, one of the leaders in mobile broadband internet, is further evidence of Yahoo!'s commitment to be the number one in mobile."
