Xfm links up with V2 Music for free podcasts

LONDON - Alternative rock radio station Xfm has tied up with record label V2 Music to release the UK's first free podcasts containing full-length music tracks.

The first 15-minute podcast can be downloaded from iTunes from today. It features exclusive versions of three songs from V2-signed band Elbow, taken from their current album 'Leaders Of The Free World', as well as excerpts from an interview with lead singer Guy Garvey.

In a week's time, the podcast will be updated to include three songs by The Rakes. Subsequent podcasts will feature Stereophonics and Nada Surf. All content has been recorded exclusively for Xfm.

Graham Hodge, Xfm's business development director, said: "As the UK's number one new music brand, Xfm's first foray into podcasting had to involve music. It is fitting that Elbow, a great British band that Xfm has supported from day one, should take this step with us."

Separately, Xfm has made a live version of V2 band Bloc Party's new single 'Two More Years' available online free to download. The track was recorded at an Xfm session at The Carling Islington Academy during August.

The two initiatives mark the beginning of Xfm's aim to extend its brand into the digital music arena.
