Today's tabloids are awash with stories that ITV has received over 3000 complaints following 'X Factor' judge Simon Cowell's decision not to axe the "hopeless" twins, nicknamed Jedward, during Sunday night's results programme, which attracted a peak audience of 16.6 million viewers, its best ever figures.
The number of complaints on the 'X Factor' message boards over Cowell's refusal to kick the Irish duo out of the competition was so great ITV has been forced to withdraw the boards temporarily due to technical difficulties.
Ofcom has also been drawn into the row. The regulator has confirmed it has received complaints however it has said it would not be investigating the show "in this particular instance".
The continued popularity of 'X Factor' and the column inches generated by the controversial act, however, helped boost ITV’s ratings among adults aged 16 to 34 by 10% last month, .
