ITV was more than five percentage points ahead of BBC One's peaktime share which, at 22.7%, is the lowest it has recorded for November since at least 1993, according to figures released by the commercial broadcaster.
For the all day figures however, BBC One still has the biggest share of viewers, with an average 21% share of the overall audience, compared with ITV1's 18.6%.
The strong performance of reality shows 'The X Factor' and 'I'm a Celebrity', as well as the week-long car crash drama 'Collision', meant the other terrestrial broadcasters were struggling to keep up.
BBC Two also recorded the poorest November share of audience since records started, with an average 7.5% of the audience tuning in between the peak viewing hours of 7pm and 10.30pm.
Channel 4's average share of the prime time audience was 5.6%, while Five had its worst November since its first year of operation in 1997, with an average of 4.4% of the audience tuning in, despite of the launch of high profile drama 'FlashFoward'.
ITV said that its revamped 'News at Ten' evening bulletin, which started on 1 November, has seen an increase in average audiences figures from 2.4 million last year to three million this year.
