The acquisition further expands WRG’s international reach – it already had offices in London, Manchester, Abu Dhabi, Doha and New York.
Serious Events counts luxury brands Chanel, LVMH, Cartier, Tiffany and Diageo among its clients. It has also worked with Goldman Sachs, Bosch and Philips.
The acquisition is the second for WRG in four months. In July, it bought Manchester-based live communication agency Canyon.
Barry Day, chief executive officer at WRG, said: "We are delighted, as a result of acquiring such a highly respected agency, to be able to offer our clients and prospective clients, exceptional support with their live marketing within the fast growing Asian marketplace and particularly within China."
David Rule founder of Serious Events, added: "This is an exciting opportunity for the Serious Event team, as access to WRG’s expertise will better serve our clients as well as create a sophisticated presence in Asia."
WRG’s Cliff Zenker will be working with Rule as general manager of the Hong Kong office.
