Vancouver-based Blast Radius, which specialises in customer experience, social media and marketing strategy services, has a range of major clients including Nike, Whirlpool and Starbucks.
The agency, which also has offices in New York and London and was formed in 1997, will be integrated into WPP's advertising and marketing division Wunderman, which said the acquisition would bolster its digital remit across relationship marketing, web analytics and data.
WPP's capture of Blast Radius for Wunderman adds to a growing haul of companies which the marketing services giant has bought this year. These include five Chinese-based marketing communications companies, as well as South Africa's Aqua Online, Belgium's These Days and the attainment of a majority stake in America's DataCore Marketing.
Daniel Morel, chairman and chief executive officer of Wunderman, said: "As marketers increase their dependency on digital channels, Wunderman and Blast Radius are well situated to provide unparalleled online relationship marketing capabilities to meet the growing global demand. Blast Radius will add a unique expertise to our growing digital platform."
Gurval Caer, chief executive officer and president at Blast Radius, said: "It's about brands becoming innovative experiences that make people's lives easier, better, richer. With Wunderman, we will continue to help clients create customer-centric brand strategies but will now be able to do so on a more global basis."
