LONDON (Brand Republic) – Worldpop.com has raised £5m in its second round of funding, and has bought direct marketing company Trinity Street Direct for an undisclosed sum.
Worldpop, which was founded by former Radio One DJ Peter Powell, is a music and entertainment website aimed at teenagers. The second round of funding included £3m from investment bank Dresdner Kleinwort Benson, and backing from 3i and Amadeus Capital Partners.
Powell is now stepping down from his chairman’s post to become vice-chairman. Charles Levison, the deputy chairman of media group Chrysalis, is to take his place.
Trinity Street Direct is the leading supplier of direct marketing services to the music industry. The acquisition strengthens Worldpop’s growing marketing and audience research business. Worldpop already supplies market research to youth-focused brands about cultural trends among its teenage audience.
