Marmite - Good morning, you're through to the Marmite line. How can I help?
Mktg - Hi, a friend was telling me that there's a new Marmite out and I just wanted to get some more information.
Marmite - Yes, Marmite runs promotional offers on a regular basis. I think last year there was a tie-up with Guinness for St Patrick's Day and also one with Valentine's Day. This one is something to do with The Ashes. Inside it, it has a traditional English ale.
Mktg - Can it get you drunk?
Marmite - You can't, no. It does not have any alcohol in it.
Mktg - So it's safe for kids?
Marmite - Yes. I did have some more information here somewhere.
Mktg - Is The Ashes this week?
Marmite - I haven't got a clue. I know that it's the same yeast used in this beer and it's used to make the Marmite.
Mktg - Can you get it in Tesco?
Marmite - Yes, you can get it in Tesco, Sainsbury's, Morrisons and Waitrose.
Mktg - I haven't seen it yet.
Marmite - It literally looks like a cricket ball. That's the design of it.
Mktg - Does it taste the same?
Marmite - I really don't know. To be honest, I'm not really a Marmite-lover.
Mktg - Are you a hater?
Marmite - I'm not really a hater. I've tried it before and I didn't really find it interesting. You know when people really crave something? I don't.
Mktg - I would have expected you to all be lovers there. It's available for a short time only then, is it?
Marmite - Yes, there's only a limited number of jars.
Mktg - I think my friend had that Guinness one before and he's kept it as a collectors' item or something.
Marmite - Yes, collectors may have more interest in it.
Verdict
The call-handler was chirpy and easy to talk to. Despite the brand's marketing, which suggests all consumers fall into one of the two camps, she claimed she was neither a ‘lover' nor a ‘hater'. However, she was honest and gave her own thoughts on the product. The only issue was that she did not have many details to hand about the Marston's product and I had to wait for her to find more information.
