Beechams Hi, how can I help?
Mktg I've got an awful flu, but I don't want to go to the doctors for it. I want to get something quite strong, but the problem I have is that I'm allergic to codeine, so I just need to check.
Beechams OK, what are your symptoms?
Mktg Cold symptoms, a temperature, and I feel quite sick.
Beechams Have you got a cough or congestion, or anything like that?
Mktg Yes, my throat is tickling all the time and I'm fairly bunged up.
Beechams Is your nose blocked?
Mktg Yes, you can probably tell by the way I'm mumbling down the phone.
Beechams [Laughs.] You're probably better with Beechams All in One as that has paracetomol for your temperature or headache, it's got an expectorant for your cough and a decongestant in for your nasal congestion. And it doesn't have any codeine in there.
Mktg OK that's good, it's just a worry sometimes when you take anything like that.
Beechams Sure, there's definitely no codeine in there.
Mktg Is it a syrup then?
Beechams You can get it as a syrup or as a tablet.
Mktg Is it then the same stuff you'll get in the doctors?
Beechams Your doctor won't tend to prescribe you anything for a cold anyway, unless you have an infection. For a cold or flu, which are viruses, all they can do is recommend a product which alleviates your symptoms, which is what a product like Beechams is going to do. The best person to give you advice really would be your pharmacist as they have the full range of symptomatic products for cold and flu. They'll also be able to advise you on any allergies.

Verdict - The main call handler was helpful and took care finding out a suitable and safe product I could take. She also recommended that I speak to a pharmacist who could advise me on any allergies I had. The first call handler, however, had a slightly abrasive tone before I was put through.
