The Week: Media News - IAB reveals adspend rise

Online adspend increased by 21 per cent to £1.68 billon in the first half of 2008, according to figures from the Internet Advertising Bureau, just over half the rate of growth the sector enjoyed in the same period last year.

Paid search continues to take up the largest proportion of the total, and now accounts for 58.3 per cent of online advertising, with a year-on-year increase of 28 per cent. Total spend on online display advertising also increased, recording a 16.3 per cent rise to £333.8 million during the first half of 2008. Guy Phillipson, the IAB chief executive, said the accountability of online advertising was a key reason why clients are increasing their investment in the medium.
