Rowena Ratnam joins the magazine after six years as communications manager at Rodale, as well as a stint at photographic agency Red Door.
Publishing director Richard Johnstone said: "The appointment of someone with Rowena's talent and drive comes at a pivotal time for the brand -- 2004 is set to be a very exciting year for us."
In her new role, Ratnam will be involved with developing expansion plans for the magazine. This appointment continues the successful redesign, which has been well received by advertisers and readers.
Former Sunday Times style editor Jeremy Langmead has made a number of changes since becoming Wallpaper editor at the end of last year. New sections have been added, unique typefaces commissioned and photographic work from heavyweights such as Helmut Newton have combined to tone down the retro feel of the magazine.
"Wallpaper is a high-end, intelligent and beautiful magazine, but it also needs to be sexy, surprising and fun," Langmead said.
Ratnam joins a former Marie Claire fashion director and GQ art director on the senior Wallpaper team. "It's fantastic to be joining a magazine that I have enjoyed and admired for years, I can't wait to get started," she said.
