Bendel will now be responsible for all marketing strategy outside the US, in 14 countries which include Canada, Brazil and China to help reinforce price and optimise strategies in each market.

In February Bendel was promoted from marketing director to chief marketing officer. The supermarket giant then appointed Mark Sinnock as marketing director and former McCain Foods' marketer Simon Eyles as head of Asda brand marketing, in March. Sinnock had previously worked in the marketing teams at O2 and NTL, before joining the ad agency, Fallon, in 2004.

Bendel joined the supermarket three years ago from Publicis, where he held the position as chief operating officer, which at the time held the Asda ad account.

Bendel will continue to report to ASDA CEO and President Andy Bond.
