Virgin Atlantic appoints Fifty-One for first-class title

LONDON - Virgin Atlantic has appointed brand communications agency Fifty-One to create and publish Travel Notes, an in-flight customer magazine for the airline's first class passengers.

Fifty-One, which designed Virgin Atlantic's previous in-flight customer magazine Carlos, said the first issue of Travel Notes, which appears on October 10, would feature contributions from writers Tom Dixon, David Schrigley and Juliette Lewis, and illustrations from actor Mackenzie Crook.

Travel Notes, which is biannual, will be available in the Virgin Atlantic Upper Class lounges at London's Heathrow and Gatwick airports, and will have an initial circulation of 95,000 copies.

The title has already agreed advertising deals with a host of companies, including Bombay Sapphire, Puma, Cobra, Nokia and Stolichnaya.

Fifty-One, which was founded by creative director Michael Jacovides and publisher Vicky Stewart, said Travel Notes would be a creative, engaging product that passengers would want to read.

Jacovides said: "What publishing lacks in speed we make up for by offering something longer lasting. We hope the Virgin Atlantic Upper Class passenger keeps Travel Notes with them for their whole journey and beyond because it's beautiful and tactile."

Fifty-One, which also lists Selfridges among its clients, said Travel Notes would be printed on environmentally friendly wood-free paper stock.
