The quiz will be available via Video Island's site and also at . The company says that it is aiming to reach the 67% of the UK population who regularly watch quizzes on television and the 16m people who regularly rent or buy DVDs.
The partnership comes as the UK online DVD rental market heats up, with retail giant Blockbuster announcing its entry into the market this week and US market leader Netflix planning to launch here later this year.
Blockbuster will be the first of the UK services to advertise on television, leaving rivals such as Video Island and to find creative ways of marketing their brands with less money.
Saul Klein, CEO of Video Island, said: "Bringing the social element back into home entertainment within the community is one of Video Island's objectives. This partnership with Meetup.com offers an ideal opportunity to promote interaction between our members and other film lovers, developing community awareness and communication through an innovative and enjoyable experience."
The meetings will be held on the first Monday of every month.
