Universal Music on board with People's Music Store

LONDON - People's Music Store, a user-powered online mp3 shop, has signed a deal with Universal Music to include more than 300,000 label tracks from artists including Amy Winehouse, U2 and Morrissey.

, where they design their storefronts, choose music, write their own reviews and market their store online.

Storekeepers can earn points for everything they sell, which can be used to buy more music on the site.

The agreement with Universal will give users more opportunities to promote and sell the music they like and joins other labels already signed up to the service including Rough Trade, Lex and Ninja Turtles.

Ged Day, founder of People's Music Store, said the deal with Universal shows that major labels are becoming more "forward-thinking" in trying new ways to connect to fans.

Day said: "This addition doubles our catalogue to 600,000 tracks and means that our storekeepers have even more options to choose from when stocking their stores.

"We look forward to seeing well known artists like Jay-Z next to less known musicians like Doom.

"In this way, people can discover new music in an authentic context, recommended to them by peers whose opinion they trust."
