Unite appoints Lloyd James to manage inserts programme

LONDON - Trade union Unite has appointed Lloyd James Group to manage inserts in its magazines, offering marketers access to over 1m of its members.

In addition to its main magazine United, which goes out to 1.2m of Unite's 2m members four times a year, there will also be inserts within other titles distributed to union members throughout the year.

These include United Health, women's magazine United Together, The Workplace and Landworker. There is also coverage of Northern Ireland and Eire through United Magazine Ireland.

Lynn Stevens, Lloyd James Group's managing director, said that companies in IT, financial services, travel and leisure, general mail order, utilities, entertainment, and all those targeting families with children are among the firms that could benefit from marketing to this group.

Stevens said: "These are working people motivated to find out about issues affecting their jobs, their work status and their lives, so we are looking at strong open rates.

"This is a great way for marketers to reach consumers who are married with families and who earn on average about £30,000 a year -- £2,500 a year higher than the UK national average. United Magazine goes to a broad cross-section of society that is out there earning a living each day -- busy people in the prime of their working years."

Unite has partnerships with three insurance companies, LV=, UIA and AIG, which restricts them from providing the list to anyone in the insurance industry.

At the end of last year Unite appointed digital and data specialist Howse Jackson Marketing to create an online version of its United magazine, which features articles as well as interactive content such as videos, games and puzzles.

Unite was created by the merger of Amicus and the Transport and General Workers Union in 2007. Its members work in 23 industrial sectors, the private and public, including health, education, construction, government, financial services, paper and print, transport and pharmaceuticals.
