The channel, jointly owned by BBC Worldwide and Telewest, will simulcast all of the BBC's live matches, starting with the opening match on June 9 and finishing with the World Cup final on July 9.
In addition, the channel has also secured the rights to show non-exclusive highlights from all of the 64 matches as part of a daily show. It will also air pre-match programming.
UKTV is mulling hiring a comedian or celebrity to co-host the action alongside a regular commentator, who has yet to be named. UKTV G2 is a spin-off from UKTV Gold, aimed at the 16- to 34-year-old market.
Steve North, head of UKTV G2, said: "The World Cup is the most watched TV event on the planet, and is guaranteed to capture the nation's imagination and passion throughout June and July."
"We are incredibly excited about the sports coverage we currently have on G2 and following on from the RBS Six Nations, the World Cup is the next step in UKTV's sport strategy."
ITV, which jointly has the World Cup TV rights for the UK with the BBC, will air the remaining matches.
