UKTV launches new gardening channel on Sky Digital

LONDON – UKTV, the joint venture between BBC Worldwide and Flextech, is adding another channel to its nine-strong digital portfolio with the launch of UKTV Style Gardens.

The new channel, set to debut on March 21 on Sky Digital, will feature programmes including the corporation's 'Ground Force', starring Charlie Dimmock, and 'Gardener's World' with Alan Titchmarsh.

The channel is likely to squeeze BBC Two's audience share even further. Last year, its audience share fell from 11% to 10% and the figure is expected to drop even further as more people take up multichannel with specialist hobby channels.

UKTV Style Gardens will air on Sky Digital's platform on EPG 144 from 7am to 1am, and will be headed by former UKTV People channel editor Catherine Catton.

It will also enable UKTV Style to concentrate on personal makeover shows, such as 'What Not to Wear' and 'Get a New Life'.

Other channels in the portfolio include UKTV Gold, UKTV Documentary and UKTV Food.
