Hill will be responsible for leading the joint initiative between the BBC, Global Radio, GMG Radio, RadioCentre and Absolute Radio, which hopes to provide a single online player for more than 400 UK radio stations.

Prior to joining UK Radioplayer as project leader in May 2009, Hill was a strategy consultant at the BBC. He was also general manager of Channel 4’s ill-fated digital radio project between July and December 2008.

He has 20 years' experience in broadcasting and rose from studio manager at the BBC in 1989, to managing editor, network manager and interactive editor at Radio 5 Live and the Asian Network, between 2000 and 2008.

Hill said: "Radio is an incredibly powerful medium, thanks to its simplicity and the way it dovetails effortlessly with our lives. Radioplayer will bring those strengths to online listening in a way that will benefit stations of all sizes."
