The UK Radioplayer has been developed in partnership with the BBC, commercial radio trade body RadioCentre, Global Radio, GMG Radio and Absolute Radio.
In addition to offering live radio streams, the player will allow users to listen again to shows and on demand content and save their favourite stations so they can access them quickly from any of the players.
The player is now live on the stations set to launch at the event tomorrow including those owned by Global Radio, including the Heart and Capital networks, Absolute Radio and GMG Radio, such as Smooth Radio.
Absolute Radio’s version of UK Radioplayer, which plays its core station Absolute Radio and its digital sister stations, is accompanied by an ad for Volvo, the Heart player has Swiftcover branding and Capital player is sponsored by Lexus.
Direct Line is the sponsor of the Radioplayer for GMG Radio’s Smooth network, in a deal which is understood to be an extension of the Simon Bates breakfast show on the national Smooth station in England.
Branding from government website Directgov is on the Global Radio’s Gold player where as the player for Global Radio’s speech station LBC has ads from UPS, Vodafone and the National Blood Service.
Some radio companies started using the UK Radioplayer without some of the shared functionality ahead of launch. For example Absolute Radio started to use a stripped out Radioplayer in December last year and Fun Kids went live on Monday.
Advertisers that have used Absolute Radio’s player since December include the smoothie brand Innocent and software giant Microsoft to promote Microsoft Office’s sponsorship of The Times Spelling Bee.
after the take-up of the service has outstripped its capabilities and necessitated a reworking of server capacity.
Integrated agency in July last year, . The player was supposed to launch in beta by the end of 2010.
