
Alexander is chairman of Incisive Media and the Port of London Authority and will add the UBM chairmanship to her existing roles after its annual general meeting on 11 May, when she will also become a non-executive director of the board.
She was president of the CBI from 2009 - 2011, and chief executive of the Economist Group until 2008. She is also deputy chairman of Esure Group Holdings, a non-executive director of the Rolls-Royce Group and chancellor of the University of Southampton.
Incumbent chairman John Botts has held the postition for the last five years and previously spent more than a decade as UBM director. He highlighted Alexander’s experience of business and the media sector in particular, which he said would benefit the company.
He added: "It has been a privilege to be associated with UBM’s strong and able board and with our remarkably talented people around the world, especially the senior executive management team. Under David Levin’s leadership UBM is well positioned for continued growth and expansion internationally."
