Tweet what school kids eat

LONDON - The School Food Trust is trialling Twitter as a means of telling the parents of school children what they are eating during their school day.

Tweet what school kids eat

The Twitter trial is part of a new strategy from the School Food Trust which includes marketing support and improving kitchen efficiencies to support Local Authorities in increasing take up of school meals.

The Trust has teamed up with Somerset County Council as the first local authority to use Twitter to publish its school menu.

From the start of the autumn term parents across Somerset will be able to subscribe to a daily ‘school menu' update, listing what their child will be eating for lunch.

Every morning parents who are subscribed to Twitter/SCSSchoolMeals will receive a tweet showing what's on the menu.

According to UKLocalCouncils, 116 councils are currently on Twitter for various initiatives.
