
According to unofficial estimates, the Sunday Mirror – now at its normal £1 cover price – reported a headline circulation of just below 1.9 million on Sunday (21 August).
Prior to the closure of the News of the World on 10 July, the Sunday Mirror’s headline circulation in June was 1,087,796, according to ABC figures.
In July, the Sunday Mirror’s circulation was 1,786,454, according to ABC data.
The Sunday Mirror’s initial circulation boost was helped by TV advertising and by slashing its cover price to 50p.
Executives at the paper will be pleased to note there was no TV advertising supporting the Sunday Mirror this weekend.
Sister title, The People – also now priced at its normal £1 cover price – reported a headline circulation of around 900,000 on Sunday, according to unofficial estimates.
Prior to the News of the World's closure, The People's headline circulation in June was 474,549, climbing to 806,544 in July, according to ABC figures.
Like its sister title, there was no TV support for the red-top this Saturday and Sunday.
Lord Rothemere’s Mail on Sunday, meanwhile, is thought to be still holding off the charge of the Sunday Mirror.
Unofficial figures put its headline circulation on Sunday at 2,095,00.
In June, The Mail on Sunday’s headline circulation was 1,927,791 copies, rising to 2,255,399 copies in July, according to ABC figures.
Trinity Mirror and the Daily Mail & General Trust (DMGT) declined to comment.
