Travel comparison site scales back due to recession

LONDON - Several core members of the team behind Travel.co.uk are to leave the holiday comparison website, as the economic downturn hits the travel sector. Although the website will continue to operate, development plans and marketing budgets for the site are to be scaled down.

Travel comparison site scales back due to recession

Founder and managing director Ray Mason, head of customer experience Mike Ramsden and marketing manager Vicky Smith are all expected to leave the website early next year.

In a statement, Mason said: ‘The timing of the downturn in the economy and the travel sector in particular could perhaps have been better for us launching a new online travel business.'

Travel.co.uk launched in July providing price comparisons on 15 tour operators, including Thomas Cook, Thomson and Airtours.

One of the site's main innovations is still set to go live in January - creating bespoke, holiday packages protected by the Air Travel Organisers' Licensing group.
