Touch of Frost swansong helps ITV1 in battle with BBC

LONDON - BBC One won the primetime ratings war on Friday and Saturday night this weekend while ITV1 got the largest audience on Sunday and Monday nights with the final episodes of 'A Touch of Frost'.

The most watched show between 9pm and 10pm on Good Friday was the 1980s cop drama 'Ashes to Ashes' on BBC One which had an average of 5.5 million viewers, a 22% share of the available audience.

The first of two episodes of ITV1's special celebrity competition 'The Door' delivered 3.6 million viewers between 9pm and 10pm on Friday, a 14.4% share of the available audience.

Andrew Lloyd Webber's search for a Dorothy for his musical Wizard of Oz, 'Over the Rainbow' on BBC One, got the highest audience of Saturday night with 5.4 million viewers between 7.30pm and 8.45pm, a 25.4% share of the audience.

The first episode of the new 'Doctor Who’ on BBC One had the largest audience of Saturday evening with 7.7 million viewers, a 35.3% share of the available audience. If the contribution of BBC HD is included, an average of eight million viewers watched Matt Smith's debut as the Doctor.

BBC One also had the largest audience during the crucial 9pm to 10pm hour. An average of 5.5 million viewers watched the final half hour of 'The National Lottery: Who Dares Wins' and the first 30 minutes of 'Casualty'.

The Saturday episode of 'The Door' had an average of 3.5 million viewers between 8.30pm and 9.30pm, a 15.9% share of the audience, and was beaten by 'Ant & Dec's Push the Button' which was watched by 3.9 million between 7.30pm and 8.30pm (an 18.6% share).

The first programme in the final two-part story from 'A Touch of Frost', the long-running detective series starring David Jason, had an average of 7.2 million viewers between 8pm and 10pm on Sunday evening, a 28.2% share of the audience.

The murder mystery 'Jonathan Creek' on BBC One got the second most viewers during primetime. An average of 5.5 million people watched BBC One between 8pm and 9.30pm on Sunday, a 21.3% share of the audience.

An average of 8.3 million viewers watched the final instalment of 'A Touch of Frost' between 9pm and 11pm on ITV1 last night. Over the two-hour show ITV1 had a 33.9% share of the audience.

BBC One's 'Masterchef: The Final Three' was the second most watched show between 9pm and 10pm with 4.3 million viewers, a 16.1% share of the available audience.

'Channel 4's Comedy Gala', which brought together 25 comedic stars in aid of Great Ormond Street Hospital, had an average of 2.4 million viewers between 9pm and 11pm.

Channel 4's share, which includes the contribution from Channel 4+1, was 10.9% of the TV watching audience.
