The Japanese electronics group has kicked off a UK media review and is now mulling a wider European review, following on from a review of its £25m pan-European advertising business in June.
Omnicom’s PHD Rocket, which currently handles media for Toshiba computers, is understood to be repitching for the whole UK account, as is MediaCom.
Toshiba handed its advertising business, previously handled by several agencies across Europe, to Grey London last month.
Grey scooped the account after a final pitch against Lowe, Saatchi & Saatchi and Young & Rubicam.
Toshiba has now invited agencies to pitch for the media business, with pitches expected to take place in mid-August.
In the past 12 months, Toshiba spent a total of £3.8m on advertising, of which the bulk – £2.2m – was on press.
It spent £1m on outdoor, compared with £521,293 for online media and £17,923 for radio advertising, according to Nielsen Media Research.
Toshiba is currently going head -to-head with Sony in the battle to establish its HD DVD as the next-generation DVD format, over and above Sony’s Blu-ray.
Toshiba did not return calls at the time of going to press.
