Spiers' arrival later this month was announced by Titan global chairman Bill Apfelbaum at Titan's official UK launch event last night. Spiers was part of Apfelbaum's team at TDI in the 1990s, where he was sales manager and led its expansion into coach and tram contracts.
Spiers is the latest new arrival at Titan following Apfelbaum's return to the UK scene with the acquisition of Maiden Outdoor in the spring. Andy Moug and Alison Reay were installed as joint managing directors, and Steven Atkinson joined as sales director.
According to Reay, Spiers' initial focus will be on Titan Bus, the UK and European bus advertising joint venture recently set up by Titan and AdBus. Titan has taken a 50.1% stake in the venture.
After leaving TDI in 2000 Spiers worked for a year as a consultant before joining KBH to lead new business development.
At last night's launch event Apfelbaum said further acquisitions were definitely on the menu for Titan and confidently predicted that outdoor would rise from below 10% to a 15% share of the UK advertising market within five years. He promised agencies Titan UK would "work like heck to get your trust".
Also speaking last night, Reay outlined embryonic plans to introduce three new divisions - Experience, Create and Digital - probably in place of the existing Unique division.
Experience will sell brand promotional opportunities within train stations. Titan's UK revenues from this division have grown by 30% within the last 12 months.
Create will focus on new Titan products, including a planned giant site at Clapham Junction, as well as bespoke opportunities across Titan's retail, roadside and rail portfolio including sponsorships.
Digital will cover the Transvision network of 17 large LED screens within major train stations such as London Victoria. Reay indicated that the company was studying the possibility of expanding the network by installing smaller LED screens in other train stations.
