The broadband content distribution and technology company CinemaNow will offer a number of titles to consumers in UK, Germany and Italy. Its library comprises 495 titles, including the cult documentary 'Area 51: America's Most Secret Base' and classic TV drama 'Dragnet'.
The downloads will be available to everyone, not just Tiscali subscribers, and will cost £1.99 a track at launch. Tiscali will be offering an initial selection with new films added on a weekly basis. The service will launch at the beginning of October.
As part of the agreement, CinemaNow's PatchBay technology will manage some of Tiscali's on-demand initiatives including digital and territorial rights protection, use profiling, pay-per-view and subscription services.
CinemaNow has agreements for content from film companies including 20th Century Fox, Disney, Lions Gate, MGM, Miramax, and Warner Bros.
Richard Ayers, portal director of Tiscali UK, said: "We will starting with an initial list of films and will add to the catalogue on a weekly basis. This will help establish the legal delivery of movies online and prove viability of the internet in the same way as we have seen the music download market boom over the last year.
