Tiger Woods takes on F1 in his debut for TAG Heuer

LONDON - Champion golfer Tiger Woods duels with a Formula 1 race car in his debut commercial for the luxury watch brand TAG Heuer, in a spot called 'Who can beat Tiger Woods?'.

It is the first television campaign Woods has appeared in since signing for TAG Heuer late last year.

The ad was created by TBWA\Paris, which has worked on the TAG Heuer brand since the early 1990s. It transports viewers to the Monaco F1 race circuit, where the technological power of an F1 car vies with the mental strength and strokes of Tiger Woods.

Woods takes a swing at a golf ball with this club and the race car is shown taking off, speeding through the streets of Monaco. A duel ensues as Woods guides the ball with his gaze, overcoming the unusual obstacles of the city and the circuit. Throughout the ad is the ubiquitous presence of timekeeping. It is the latest outing for TAG Heuer's "What are you made of?" campaign.

It will appear on television in the US, and there is a print campaign appearing in Conde Nast Traveler, Details, Forbes, Golf Digest, GQ and Town & Country.

Daniel Lalonde, president and CEO of TAG Heuer North America, said: "The goal of the commercial is to build awareness through unconventional advertising, and to convey a spirit of competition by linking TAG Heuer's two favourite sports -- golf and auto racing."

Tiger Woods was previously the face of Rolex's Tudor brands for five years, before deciding he preferred TAG Heuer's timepieces.
