Race to the Stones is a 100km race on foot along the oldest path in Britain - the Ridgeway. Participants will pass Iron Age forts, ancient burial chambers, cross the Thames and the mystical down-lands of Salisbury before the race finishes at the 3,000-year-old stone circle at Avebury.
Participants can choose to complete the 100km route non-stop by walking through the night, or can break it into two days staying in the base camp at the halfway point. Or they can choose to complete just one of the 50km days.
Nick Tuppen, head of Threshold Events, said: "There are lots of events out there for the ultra-competitive, but the Race to the Stones allows regular people to line up with the elites and Olympic champions to complete the same challenge. Walking and running are totally accessible as you don’t need lots of expensive kit, and this means everyone can get the same sense of satisfaction on reaching the stone circle in Avebury whether it has taken them seven or 27 hours to get there."
James Cracknell, co-founder of Threshold, said: "I have travelled the world in search of races in epic places, and the Ridgeway’s legendary history and great British scenery make it a classic challenge. Passing 5,000 year old burial chambers in the middle of night thinking about the generations who have trodden the route before will be a great experience."
Julian Mack, James Cracknell and Charlie Beauchamp founded threshold Sports in 2007. Its existing event portfolio includes the Deloitte Ride Across Britain, and the MITIE London Revolution.
