The news comes as the 2013 event, which has been organised by sports marketing agency Threshold Sports Events and was originally masterminded by Olympic rowing champion James Cracknell, has sold out with 800 individuals taking part.
Threshold Sports revealed 45% participants have chosen to complete the 100km-route non-stop on Saturday (13 July), while others have chosen to walk it across two days with a campsite set up half the way around the course.
The route is based on the Ridgeway – the oldest footpath in Britain – which winds through the Chilterns in Oxfordshire to the North Wessex Downs, finishing at the 3,000-year-old stone circle in Avebury.
Nick Tuppen, head of Threshold Sports Events, said: "We always felt there was space in the ultra market for an event that is really well supported and therefore appeals to everyone from elites through to first timers.
"We are hugely pleased to have sold out in year one and to have such as mix of people joining us. The dream is for the event to become known as an ideal intro to ultras and hopefully will be a springboard to get more and more people into the sport."
