Tesco invites readers to join branded book club

LONDON - Tesco is expanding its empire with the launch of a range of branded books that it will sell online and in stores in the UK.

Tesco invites readers to join branded book club

The retailer has partnered with publisher Random House to launch Tesco Book Club, an initiative that will see it produce a special edition each month featuring additional content and a branded bookmark.

Tesco, which is already one of the UK's biggest book retailers, intends to promote the scheme with a nationwide point-of-sale campaign, email activity and display ads in Tesco Magazine. It has also created a dedicated web portal featuring additional content such as further reading recommendations. Web users will be able to submit book reviews online, as well as buy different titles each month.

To celebrate the launch, Tesco is running a competition to win a holiday to Barbados.

The first Tesco Book Club title available to consumers online is Innocent Traitor by Alison Weir. This will be followed in July by Kate Atkinson's One Good Turn. Both titles will carry Tesco branding on the cover and throughout.

The launch comes days after Tesco announced a £155m bid for Scottish garden-centre group Dobbies, which it plans to roll out across the UK.
