Telegraph launches app for Google Android

LONDON - Telegraph Media Group has created an application for Google Android, enabling readers to access content on the search giant's new mobile operating system.

The publisher has become one of the first UK companies to create a service for Android, which is currently available in the US. The free application enables readers to access news content, sport, travel, motoring and finance.

Consumers can download the application from Android Marketplace, Google's equivalent of Apple's App Store.

Android has launched in the US only, through a partnership with T-Mobile but a UK launch is expected next month.

The development follows the departure from Telegraph Media Group of Mike Moore, general manager for digital operations. Meanwhile former Google executive Lorrain Twohill has joined Telegraph Media Group as a non-executive director.
