Telegraph to close internet supplement

LONDON - The Daily Telegraph is the latest national newspaper to close its internet supplement, with the Dotcom Telegraph set for its final issue next Thursday.

All staff have been retained and the Telegraph will continue to cover new media, with a new section appearing within the main newspaper on Tuesdays.

Editor Becky Barrow will continue in her role as editor.

Although the supplement proved popular with readers, as advertising revenues in the new-media sector dried up it was no longer viable to pay for the printing and paper costs for the separate supplement.

The Telegraph launched the supplement in May 2000 when all the nationals were rushing to cash in on the internet boom. Since then, the Sunday Times has also closed its internet supplement, Doors.
