‘Team GB House’ will occupy a 1,947sqm area within One Stratford Place – the shopping centre’s eighth floor office development – overlooking the Olympic Park and Stadium.

As well as facilities for the athletes and coaches, it will incorporate areas to entertain sponsors, key supporters and stakeholders, with British Olympians from previous Games, including those who represented Team GB the last time London hosted the Olympic Games in 1948, expected to make an appearance.

The BOA will begin to move into the site in early 2012 to fit-out and test the venue before opening for Team GB in early July 2012.

Once the Olympic Games are over, the site will be handed over to the British Paralympic Association (BPA) to support Paralympics GB during the Paralympic Games.

Team GB chef de mission and BOA CEO Andy Hunt said: "Team GB House will be our operational heartbeat during the London 2012 Olympics. It is an important component in our strategy to deliver the very best possible support and preparation environment to Team GB to enhance athlete performance.

"The excellent facilities at Westfield Stratford City, combined with its ideal location adjacent to the Olympic Park allow us to offer unprecedented layers of support to Team GB athletes, their families and close friends. It also offers important opportunities to engage with our partners and supporters, media and to celebrate British Olympians from previous Games."

Director of Westfield Stratford City John Burton added: "We are delighted that Team GB are to be our first Olympic clients here at Westfield Stratford City. It is an honour to host the team during 2012 and we are proud to be working with them during this prestigious event. We look forward to accommodating the Team GB athletes as well as their friends and family. There is plenty to keep everyone entertained within Westfield Stratford City and our world-class hospitality facilities will provide the perfect respite from the crowds."

The £1.45bn Westfield Stratford City will be the largest urban shopping centre in Europe when it opens on 13 September this year.

It is anticipated that during the Games, 70% of all spectators will travel through the centre en route to the Park.
