The Melbourne office will be the first base outside the UK for the agency, which is a division of Tangent Communications.
Tangent One has been charged with launching a new transactional website for the bookseller following a three-way pitch against UK-based Javelin and another Antipodean agency.
The website will launch in Australia this month and will be based on the Taobase platform, a unique operating environment for marketers developed by Tangent's research and development business, Tangent Labs. The platform enables a single view of all data and detailed tracking of ROI from marketing message to website.
The website will also include state of the art eCRM tools which will provide customers with accurate book suggestions based on their previous searches and purchases.
Nick Gillett, Tangent One managing director, said: "Australia is an exciting marketplace for our first international office. It provides huge opportunities for smart digital marketers to make a name for themselves. We have found that businesses here are hungry to find digital partners that can make a real difference to their business."
Tangent already conducts business in 20 countries across five continents but this is its first international base.
Gillett said: "By consolidating the work we already have in the region and giving ourselves feet on the ground we aim to become major players in this marketplace."
